DC’s Blue Beetle taps What We Do In The Shadows’ Harvey Guillén and more

March 9, 2022 by Matt Rodgers

With The Batman currently filling the DC coffers at the worldwide box-office, the comic book giants are hard at work with Warner Bros. trying to find their next successful page-to-screen adaptation, and it appears that they’re going to enlist What We Do In The Shadows star Harvey Guillén for a key role in Blue Beetle.

According to Deadline, while details of exactly what Guillén’s role is are bring kept under wraps, they are calling it a ‘key role’. He currently plays fan-favourite Guillermo de la Cruz in FX’s brilliant comedy series What We Do In Shadows.

Warner Bros. have also announced that relative newcomer Bruna Marquezine will play Penny, the female lead and love interest, while American Horror Stories‘ Belissa Escobedo will take the role of Milagros, our titular superhero’s little sister.

Originally set as an HBO Max Original, Warner Bros. and DC Films have announced that their Blue Beetle movie is heading to the big screen and will open in cinemas in August 2023.

Blue Beetle is being directed by Manuel Soto (Charm City Kings) and will see Xolo Maridueña (Cobra Kai) taking on the role of Jamie Reyes, a Mexican-American teenager who discovers a mysterious scarab which binds itself to his spine, providing him with extra-terrestrial armour that he uses to become a superhero.

Blue Beetle is set to open theatrically on August 18th 2023.
