Director J.A. Bayona releases Jurassic World 2 teaser image, Bryce Dallas Howard says shoot will begin “really soon”

January 30, 2017 by Justin Cook

While an official production start date for Jurassic World 2 has yet to be revealed, recent updates by director J.A. Bayona and returning star Bryce Dallas Howard suggest it’s just around the corner.

Last Thursday, Bayona decided to tease the film’s upcoming shoot by posting an image of several hard hats with the Jurassic Park logo plastered on them on Twitter. His tweet made it clear that he’s getting ready to dive into the world of scientists and dinosaurs, reading: “Getting ready for the journey.” See the image here…

Additionally, at last night’s Screen Actors Guild Awards, Howard, who was nominated for her role as Lacie Pound in Black Mirror’s “Nosedive,” briefly spoke to ET about the sequel. On production, she excitedly said, “I’m leaving really soon. It’s awesome. Now we’re in the flow of things where everyone is talking every day and we’re gonna go put on a show!”

Early reports indicated that Jurassic World 2 would begin filming next month, but more recently, talks have been hinting at a March start date. While Howard’s comments are still largely ambiguous, she certainly makes it sound like cameras will get rolling closer to February than March. Regardless, Bayona should have plenty of time to finish up pre-production, shoot and edit before the film’s June 22nd, 2018 release date.

Jurassic World 2 will see Chris Pratt and Howard reprising their roles as Owen Grady and Claire Dearing alongside new additions Toby Jones (Captain America: The First Avenger), Rafe Spall (Black Mirror), Justice Smith (The Get Down) and Daniella Pineda (The Detour). Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow is penning the script once again with Derek Connolly. Frank Marshall, Pat Crowley and Belen Atienza are on board as producers.
