Director Sam Mendes exits Disney’s Pinocchio, prompting speculation of a Bond return

November 16, 2017 by Gary Collinson

It looks like Disney will have to find a new director to pull the strings on its live-action Pinocchio film, with The Tracking Board reporting that Sam Mendes (American Beauty, Skyfall) has exited the project.

It’s unclear why the filmmaker has opted to drop out of Pinocchio, but it has prompted speculation that Mendes could be set to reunite with his Skyfall and Spectre star Daniel Craig for Bond 25.

The latest instalment in the iconic spy series is currently seeking a director, with Yann Demange (’71), David Mackenzie (Hell or High Water) and Denis Villeneuve (Blade Runner 2049) said to be on the shortlist (although Villeneuve has seemingly ruled himself out by stating that Dune is his priority).

Disney’s Pinocchio movie has been written by Chris Weitz (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story), and is yet to be given a release date by the studio.

007 fans – would you like to see Sam Mendes back for Bond 25? Let us know in the comments below…
