Disney CEO Bob Iger on Han Solo movie: “It’s gonna be fine”

June 26, 2017 by Jordan Jones

With all of the crazy news surrounding the Han Solo movie these days, it’s hard to accurately gauge how this movie will turn out. With Phil Lord and Chris Miller actually being fired from the project (apparently because they believed they were making a comedy), and being abruptly replaced with Ron Howard, and even rumors that Han Solo star Alden Ehrenreich took issue with the creative direction of the film… how are fans not supposed to panic?

Well, according to Disney CEO Bob Iger, there is absolutely nothing to fear. Speaking to Screen Rant, the CEO had this to say: “First of all, we have a great cast, we have a great script and we have a great director. It’s gonna be fine. I’m very excited.”

Well, it’s good to hear that the Disney CEO is reassuring fans about a film that is backed by Disney. Really, though, it’s still too early to panic. We barely have an image of this movie to go by, at this point, and the film could very well turn out exceptional. After all, it’s not the first time a creative risk resulted in a great movie. Producers were furious over Johnny Depp’s bizarre characterization of Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, and looked how that turned out?

Here’s hoping.

Han Solo stars Alden Ehrenreich (Hail, Caesar!) as the famous smuggler, Donald Glover (Atlanta) as Lando Calrissian, Woody Harrelson (War for the Planet of the Apes) as Beckett (Solo’s mentor), Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca and Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag), Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones), Thandie Newton (Westworld), Ian Kenny (Sing Street) and Michael K. Williams (The Night Of) in as-yet-unrevealed roles. It is set for release on May 25th 2018.
