Disney delays Mulan, The New Mutants and Antlers over coronavirus pandemic

March 12, 2020 by Gary Collinson

With more and more countries taking measures to try and slow the coronavirus pandemic, including the closing of cinemas in an increasing number of markets, Disney’s Mulan and the Fox acquisitions The New Mutants and Antlers have been pulled from the global release schedule, following hot on the heels of today’s delays to Fast & Furious 9 and A Quiet Place Part II.

Mulan’s delay in particular is certainly no surprise, given that the theatrical market is completely shut down in China, which is likely to be one of – if not the – biggest territories for the $200 million blockbuster. It was set to open on March 27th.

The delay to Fox and Marvel’s The New Mutants means this is the fourth time that the troubled X-Men spinoff has been pushed back, having originally been set to arrive in April 2018, followed by February 2019, August 2019, and most recently April 3rd this year. Horror film Antlers was slated to arrive on April 17th.

At this point it seems that Disney is still currently eyeing a May 1st 2020 release for Marvel Studios’ Black Widow. However, with the way things are going, that may well be optimistic.
