Disney plans to remake animated Robin Hood film for Disney+

April 11, 2020 by EJ Moreno

Disney is planning to bring another one of their classic animated films to life in a whole new way. This time, the powerhouse studio is back with the classic story of Robin Hood.

While the studio is known for its more modern live-action remakes, the latest version of Robin Hood is said to be of the live-action/CG hybrid format. Reports also say this will be a musical, much like the 1973 version.

Carlos Lopez Estrada, known for directing 2018’s Blindspotting, is on board to helm the project, which will see Kari Granlund serve as a writer. This is not Granlund’s first Disney+ project, as they recently wrote the studio’s recent remake of Lady and the Tramp. Producing this for the streamer is Justin Springer, whose Disney credits include Tron: Legacy and Dumbo.

1973’s Robin Hood saw Disney take the classic English folklore in a comedic and musical direction, with animated anthropomorphic animals filling in the roles of iconic characters like Robin Hood, Little John, and the Sheriff of Nottingham. The film went on to have an Oscar-nominated song in “Love.”

The project is in early development, so no casting news at the time of reporting.
