Disney sets dates for Ghost In The Shell, The Jungle Book and Pete’s Dragon

January 14, 2015 by Scott J. Davis

Disney is set for a monumental couple of years at the box office through 2015, 2016 and beyond. This year sees both Avengers: Age Of Ultron and Star Wars: The Force Awakens debut, but that hasn’t stopped then from lining up some other big box-office treats for post-2015.

With news over the last week that Scarlett Johansson (Under the Skin) has officially signed on for the live-action remake of anime classic Ghost in The Shell (for which she is set to earn a cool $20 million), a release date has now been confirmed for April 14th, 2017. That date already has Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim 2 and an as-of-yet unannounced “monster movie” from Universal Pictures.

Johansson is also lending her talents to another remake, with her sultry vocal chords bringing life to Kaa the Snake in Jon Favreau’s live-action version of The Jungle Book. Originally, the film was due at the end of this year, but has now been pushed to April 15th, 2016 where it will face off with the Jack Black-starring Goosebumps.

And finally, another live-action Disney remake is on the horizon, with Pete’s Dragon is set to fly on August 12th 2016, with David Lowery (Ain’t Them Bodies Saints) directing Oakes Fegley, Bryce Dallas Howard, Michael C. Hall and Robert Redford. Going up against the big green dragon are Robert De Niro/ Zac Efron/ Aubrey Plaza comedy Bad Grandpa and the animated film Sausage Party, voiced by a plethora of actors including Seth Rogen, James Franco, Jonah Hill, Kristen Wiig and Paul Rudd.
