Disney’s Star Wars spin-off movies to be “origin stories”, Ewan McGregor says no contact over Obi Wan return

September 13, 2013 by admin

As development continues on J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: Episode VII, Disney is working behind the scenes to prepare a Star Wars blitz as the studio looks to capitalise on its $4 billion dollar acquisition of Lucasfilm, with chief financial officer Jay Rasulo taking the opportunity to discuss the Mouse House’s plans for the epic space opera during a conference call with investors.

Stating that “the market is extremely hot for everything Star Wars” Rasulo went on to suggest that “the sky is the limit” for Star Wars and that Disney is laying the groundwork for a marketing and merchandising blitz which will roll out once Episode VII arrives in cinemas in 2015. He then went on to reiterate the plan to release Star Wars films each year, alternating between a Sequel Trilogy instalments and “origin story” films, such as the planned Boba Fett and Han Solo spin-offs.

Meanwhile if Bleeding Cool is to be believed, a casting call for the young Han Solo is already doing the rounds in Hollywood, while Ewan McGregor spoke to E!Online about the rumours he’s set to reprise the role of Obi Wan Kenobi for Episode VII, stating that “they haven’t phoned me yet” but should they do so, then “I’d be up for it.”
