Doc Savage TV series in development

February 22, 2020 by Gary Collinson

With plans for a feature film adaptation from director Shane Black (Iron Man 3) and star Dwayne Johnson (Jumanji: The Next Level) having stalled, it seems that Sony and producer Neal H. Moritz are now looking to bring the Man of Bronze to the small screen with a Doc Savage TV series.

Created by Henry W. Ralston and John L. Nanovic, Doc Savage was one of the most popular characters of the pulp era in the 1930s and 1940s, and eventually branched out into radio, film, TV and comic books, with comic book legend Stan Lee describing the character as the forerunner to modern superheroes.

The new series will follow the adventurer as he takes on “rampaging dinosaurs, secret societies led by dastardly villains, fantastic gadgets and weapons, death-dealing traps, hair-raising escapes, and plots to rule the earth.”

Doc Savage will be produced in collaboration with Conde Nast Entertainment, rights holders to the Doc Savage character through the Street & Smith Library. Moritz and Pavun Shetty are executive producing through their Original Film banner, along with Oren Katzeff and Jon Koa of Condé Nast.
