Domhnall Gleeson slams toxic Star Wars fans for harassment of Kelly Marie Tran

September 20, 2018 by Amie Cranswick

During an interview with HeyUGuys to promote the release of his new movie The Little Stranger, actor Domhnall Gleeson has spoken out in defence of his Star Wars: The Last Jedi co-star Kelly Marie Tran, slamming those toxic fans who were responsible for harassing and abusing the actress and leading to her exit from social media.

“People having an opinion about the film is absolutely fine,” said Gleeson, who will reunite with Tran on next year’s Star Wars: Episode IX. “You pay your money, and you’re allowed to have an opinion. The stuff with Kelly was bullshit. That’s a different thing altogether, so those people are just morons. Those people are just assholes. It’s a different level of stuff. You don’t buy that when you buy your tickets. I thought the piece she wrote was amazing and I’ve got huge respect for her. I thought she dealt with it as classily as an unclassy situation can call for.”

Gleeson has really hit the nail on the head with his remarks, and while The Last Jedi certainly has its critics (myself included), there’s simply no excuse for the disgusting kind of behaviour we’ve seen from some apparent “fans” who decided to vent their frustration by resorting to personal attacks.
