Don’t expect second seasons of Marvel’s Hawkeye or Moon Knight

April 17, 2022 by Amie Cranswick

If Marvel Studios’ Emmy Award ‘For Your Consideration’ plans are anything to go by, anyone hoping for second seasons of Marvel’s Hawkeye or current Disney+ offering Moon Knight look set to be disappointed.

As reported by Variety, Loki – which already has a second season confirmed and readying for production – is being pushed in the drama categories for this year’s Emmys, while both Hawkeye and Moon Knight have been submitted for consideration as limited series.

Television Academy rules and regulations for shows submitted in the limited series categories state that: “The program must tell a complete, non-recurring story, and not have an ongoing storyline or main characters in subsequent seasons.”

While the lines are blurred somewhat by the episodic nature of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (for example, several of Hawkeye’s characters and story threads look set to continue in the Echo series), this effectively rules out second seasons for both Hawkeye and Moon Knight.

Of course, this doesn’t mean we’ve seen the last of Jeremy Renner’s Clint Barton, Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop or Oscar Isaac’s multiple personas on the small screen either, with Marvel currently developing an unfathomable number of Disney+ projects where their stories could continue.

Moon Knight follows Steven Grant, a mild-mannered gift-shop employee who becomes plagued with blackouts and memories of another life. Steven discovers he has dissociative identity disorder and shares a body with mercenary Marc Spector. As Steven/Marc’s enemies converge upon them, they must navigate their complex identities while thrust into a deadly mystery among the powerful gods of Egypt.

Featuring in the cast of Moon Knight are Oscar Isaac as Marc Spector/Steven Grant/Moon Knight, Ethan Hawke as Arthur Harrow, Gaspard Ulliel as Midnight Man, Lucy Thackeray as Donna, and May Calamawy as Layla.

Moon Knight airs on Disney+ on Wednesdays.
