Dungeons & Dragons Gold Box Classics now available on Steam

April 2, 2022 by Andrew Newton

Remember the classic old Dungeons & Dragons RPGs that we would play on our Amigas, Atari STs and DOS PCs, like Curse of the Azure Bonds, Champions of Krynn and the beloved Eye of the Beholder games? Well they’re now available on Steam in a number of different collections, and for the real D&D aficionado there’s an epic bundle featuring them all.

The Gold Box Series were originally launched in 1988 and over time their popularity spread among fans of D&D and newcomers alike.  Whether it was the worlds of Dragonlance, the brutal realm of Dark Sun or the vampire filled chaos of Ravenloft, there was something that encouraged all to grab their sword and spellbooks and begin the adventure.

The Dungeons & Dragons Gold Box Classics collections come with a number of free add-ons, including digital versions of the original manuals, hint books, adventurer journals plus much more to keep the adventure alive.  There’s also a new game launcher, party transfer tools and improved DOSBox performance.

Collections available include:

  • Forgotten Realms: The Archives Collection One (Eye of the Beholder I, II, and III)
  • Forgotten Realms: The Archives – Collection Two (Curse of the Azure Bonds, Gateway to the Savage Frontier, Hillsfar, Pools of Darkness, Pool of Radiance, Secret of the Silver Blades, Treasures of the Savage Frontier, and Unlimited Adventures)
  • Forgotten Realms: The Archives – Collection Three (Dungeon Hack, Menzoberranzan)
  • Krynn series (Champions of Krynn, Death Knights of Krynn, The Dark Queen of Krynn)
  • Dark Sun series (Shattered Lands, Wake of the Ravager)
  • Ravenloft series (Strahd’s Possession, Stone Prophet)
  • D&D Stronghold: Kingdom Simulator
  • Al-Qadim: The Genie’s Curse

“Today is a great day for fans of these iconic Dungeons & Dragons digital experiences and CRPGS in general, and of course, for modern gamers,” said Oleg Klapovskiy, Director at SNEG. “These games have created so many wonderful memories of fantastic adventures for players young and old, and now we’re pleased to bring them to Steam while updating them to run on modern PC hardware and include add-ons to make the experience even better than before.”

Dungeons & Dragons Gold Box Classics collections are available on Steam now and until 5th April there’s a 15% discount so get adventuring while the deal’s on.
