Dwayne Johnson confirms Black Adam will shoot in July 2020

October 21, 2019 by Gary Collinson

More than five years after he was first linked to the role, Dwayne Johnson has confirmed on social media that he’ll be suiting up as the DC villain / antihero Black Adam for his long-gestating solo movie next year.

The Rock made the announcement on Twitter, responding to a fan who’d created a sculpture of him as the character and revealing that production on the Black Adam movie will get underway in July 2020.

Very cool man, thank you.
Amazing detail.
This project has been with me for over 10yrs🖤⚡️
Production begins this July.
Appreciate the support. #blackadam #dc https://t.co/h8TPXMbcTx

— Dwayne Johnson (@TheRock) October 18, 2019

Johnson was originally offered a choice between playing Black Adam or his nemesis Shazam, the original plan being to have both characters square off in Warner and DC’s Shazam! movie. That film has of course been and gone now after the decision was made to introduce Johnson’s Black Adam through his own solo outing, while Zachary Levi took on the role of Shazam and recently suggested that we may have to wait until Shazam! 3 to see the two characters doing battle.

Black Adam is set to be directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, who recently worked with Johnson on Disney’s Jungle Cruise. As yet, there’s no word on a potential release date.
