Edgar Wright to direct the J.J. Abrams-produced sci-fi Collider

July 24, 2012 by admin

British filmmaker Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz) has signed on to direct a science fiction film called Collider, which is also being produced by J.J. Abrams’ (Lost, Star Trek) Bad Robot for Paramount Pictures. Although little is known about the project (which comes as no surprise given Abrams’ knack for secrecy), Collider is being co-written by Wright and Mark Protosevich, whose credits include Thor and the upcoming Spike Lee-directed Oldboy remake, as well as the abandoned 90s Batman sequel Batman: Triumphant.

After making his Hollywood debut with 2010’s Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, Wright is currently preparing to deliver the third instalment of his ‘Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy’, reteaming with stars Simon Pegg and Nick Frost for the British sci-fi comedy The World’s End, which is set to begin filming this August. It also seems that Wright’s long-gestating Ant-Man adaptation is finally moving forward, with Marvel Studios officially announcing the movie as part of their ‘Phase Two’ line-up at Comic-Con earlier this month. Meanwhile J.J. Abrams is putting the finishing touches to his ‘Untitled Star Trek Sequel’ for release next May, and also has the action-thriller Wunderkind and a potential Cloverfield sequel on his upcoming producing slate.

Much like Ant-Man, no release date has been specified for Collider, but with Wright likely to be preoccupied with The World’s End until early next year, it seems we’ll be looking at 2014 at the earliest regardless of which comes first.
