Elizabeth Banks to produce new Flintstones adult animated series

July 12, 2019 by Gary Collinson

It looks like we may soon be taking another trip back to Bedrock, as Variety is reporting that Elizabeth Banks’ Brownstone Productions is teaming up with Warner Bros. Animation for a new take on The Flintstones.

The project, which is part of Brownstone’s overall deal with Warner Bros. Television, is said to be in the earliest stages of development, and is described as “a primetime animated adult comedy series based on an original idea and featuring characters from The Flintstones.”

The original Hanna-Barbera cartoon was the first animated series to hold a prime time slot, airing on ABC between 1960 and 1966. It was followed by a host of spinoff series, television specials and movies, an animated feature, and two live-action movies released in 1994 and 2000.

Back in 2011, it was announced that Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane was working on a reboot of the series for Fox, but the project ultimately fell apart, with McFarlane stating that: “I couldn’t figure out a way to find enough differentiation between a modern-day Fred Flintstone and Peter Griffin.”
