Emma Watson’s new film The Colony grosses just £47 at the UK box office

July 6, 2016 by Gary Collinson

Last month, it was revealed that the Al Pacino and Anthony Hopkins thriller Misconduct earned just £97 during its opening weekend at the UK box office, and now comes word that former Harry Potter star Emma Watson suffered an even worse return with her new film.

The Colony (a.k.a. Colonia) received a limited UK release this past Friday, and managed to pull in a pitiful £47 over the weekend – a far cry from the blockbuster openings that Watson became accustomed to during her time as Hermione Granger.

In fairness, it was only shown in three cinemas… and presumably sold around the same number of tickets.

Were you one of the handful of people to see The Colony in cinemas this past weekend? Was it a lonely experience? Let us know in the comments below…

Colonia tells the story of Lena (Emma Watson) and Daniel (Daniel Bruhl), a young couple who become entangled in the Chilean military coup of 1973. Daniel is abducted by Pinochet’s secret police and Lena tracks him to a sealed off area in the south of the country called Colonia Dignidad. The Colonia presents itself as a charitable mission run by lay preacher Paul Schäfer (Michael Nyqvist) but, in fact, is a place nobody ever escaped from. Lena decides to join the cult in order to find Daniel.
