Ewan McGregor says the reported Obi-Wan Kenobi Star Wars spinoff isn’t going to happen any time soon, if at all

April 19, 2017 by Robert Kojder

Since Disney purchased Lucasfilm and announced a series of Star Wars spin-off movies, there have been various reports and rumours that Ewan McGregor would be returning to the role of Obi-Wan Kenobi for a solo outing.

Some news outlets claimed there would be a trilogy of movies, and one even went as far as to say an official announcement would be made at Star Wars Celebration. Of course, none of this has happened.

McGregor himself has been vocal about wanting to return to a galaxy far, far away, but it seems that nothing is on the table at the moment.

“There’s no official offer, and I haven’t met them about it or anything,” he told Entertainment Weekly. “But I’ve always said that I’d be happy to do it if they wanted to do it. It would be a good segue between the last episode of the prequels and the new episodes. I think they’ve got films to make until the 2020s, so I don’t think it’s going to happen soon if it happens at all.”

McGregor notes that an Obi-Wan movie would be a good segue from the prequels to the new episodes, but didn’t Rogue One: A Star Wars Story do that?

Are you hopeful that we’ll get to see an Obi-Wan movie? Let us know in the comments below…
