Final Destination 6 adds Spider-Man’s Jon Watts as producer and heads to HBO Max

January 12, 2022 by Matt Rodgers

As with a lot of productions, a fifth Final Destination sequel was put on hiatus when the pandemic hit, but it appears that fate still has plans for the franchise with the news that Spider-Man: No Way Home director Jon Watts has been brought onboard to provide a story from which the script will be written, and that Final Destination 6‘s…..erm….destination will be HBO Max.

According to Deadline Lori Evans Taylor (Wicked Wicked Games) and Guy Busick (Ready or Not) are writing the screenplay from a story by Watts, who is coming off the back of No Way Home‘s $1.5 billion and counting box-office haul.

The Final Destination franchise isn’t without its own record breaking box-office numbers, with $700M in the New Line bank account the series only trails The Conjuring Universe and Stephen King’s It for makers New Line. Final Destination 6 won’t be adding to that franchise total though, because it is being made for Warner Media’s HBO Max streaming service.

Watts will be joined by Atlanta producer Dianne McGunigle, and said of the project, “Both Dianne and I have been massive fans of Final Destination from the very beginning, so to be able to have a hand in crafting a new story with the original team and New Line is going to be both fun and exciting.”

Are you excited for another slice and dice date with destiny? Are you disappointed that Final Destination 6 will debut on HBO Max? Let us know what you think by heading to our social channels @FlickeringMyth…
