Finn Wolfhard says Stranger Things season 4 will be the “darkest season” yet

February 16, 2021 by Liam Waddington

With the fourth season of Netflix’s Stranger Things currently in production following several delays due to the ongoing global health crisis, one actor has teased what fans can expect from the latest season.

During an appearance on CBC Listen, Finn Wolfhard, who plays Mike Wheeler in the series, has teased that Stranger Things season four will be the “darkest season” yet as well as claiming that the new episodes will be amping up the sadness and comedy elements of the show.

“Every season it gets darker. Really, I will say with Season 3 I was like, this is the darkest season that there’ll ever be, like the exploding rats and everything. But really, Season 4 so far, it’s the darkest season there’s ever been,” Wolfhard said. “Every year, it gets amped up. Every year it gets funnier and darker and sadder, and everything. Every year, they amp it up.”

While we don’t know many plot details, we do know the fourth season will address the fate of fan-favourite character Jim Hopper after he was locked up in a Russian prison following his “death” in the season three finale which actor David Harbour compared to Gandalf’s resurrection.

The latest additions to the season four cast include Robert Englund, who is best known for the iconic horror villain Freddy Krueger, Tom Wlaschiha, Sherman Augustus, Mason Dye, Nikola Djuricko, Jamie Campbell Bower, Eduardo Franco, and Joseph Quinn.

Returning cast members for Stranger Things include Winona Ryder as Joyce Byers, David Harbour as Chief Jim Hopper, Finn Wolfhard as Mike Wheeler, Millie Bobby Brown as Eleven, Noah Schnapp as Will Byers, Caleb McLaughlin as Lucas Sinclair, Gaten Matarazzo as Dustin Henderson, Natalia Dyer as Nancy Wheeler, Charlie Heaton as Jonathan Byers, Joe Keery as Steve Harrington, Sadie Sink as Max, Maya Hawke as Robin, Priah Ferguson as Erica Sinclair and Brett Gelman as Murray Bauman.
