Flickering Myth Reaction – The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 Trailer

September 17, 2014 by Luke Owen

The Flickering Myth writing and editorial team react to the trailer for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1….

The end is almost nigh as the new trailer for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 landed a couple of days ago. But what did the Flickering Myth writing and editorial staff think of it?

Helen Murdoch: The trailer looks action packed and all the cast look on top form – especially Donald Sutherland. My only issue is that having read Mockingjay is that not a lot happens in the first half of the book, so I’m unsure what they’ll include/where the films will separate. The trailer didn’t fill me with excitement or awe like others have i.e. Interstellar, Guardians of the Galaxy etc., so I’m yet to be impressed.

Tom Roach: The trailer itself appears to be a teaser. It gives no real indication to plot or new characters but I guess that is actually a good thing. It has plenty of action which will certainly draw people to the film. The trailer seems fun but if I’m honest after reading the books, Mockingjay is the least interesting in my eyes. I’m sure this will do fine though. Looks enjoyable, great cast and such.

Luke Owen: I wasn’t really taken in by either movie to be honest, but this new trailer looks fairly decent. The Hunger Games movies are just “fine” and this one is in the same boat by looking just “fine”.

Mike P Williams: Looks pretty epic, actually. The whole underground, techno-y vibe reminded me a bit of The Matrix, if I’m honest! Seems fairly action-packed as well as story driven.

Chris Cooper: Hm. Seems like a big jump from the games. The first two were decent films but bar Stanley Tucci not much of it has stuck in my mind. This looks like it will be much the same on a bigger scale. Hm.

Mike P Williams: If I’m being truthful, I’ve totally forgotten what happened in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.

Luke Owen: I actually forgot that Pete had died…

Chris Cooper: Had to ask my wife what happened in the last one. Did not have a clue, bar monkeys.

Matt Spencer-Skeen: Kind of know what you guys are saying, I came out of the last two movies happy but couldn’t tell you what happened an hour later. This looks like a bigger scale than the last two and will hopefully be more memorable.

Anghus Houvouras: Toothless, bloodless films that feel very clean for stories centered around murder competitions. Like Mortal Kombat without the fatalities. I was curious to see how the story ends, but once they split it into two movies I immediately gave up caring.

Kat Kourbeti: I loved the first two films, and I’m really excited for this one (despite the whole two movies cash cow thing, which I find ridiculous). It’s not evident in the trailer how far into Mockingjay they’ll go with this movie, but either way it looks pretty good to me.

James Garcia: I’ve been really impressed with the Hunger Games films, and am excited for both Mockingjay movies. I really disliked the second book, but loved the second movie, so that has me hopeful that Mockingjay (another book I wasn’t crazy about) will lend itself well to live-action. I’m a bit weary about how they’ll split the book into two parts, but am willing to go along for the ride at this point. As for the trailer itself, it did a great job at getting me excited for the film and showing the raised stakes this time around. Bring it on.

So, nearly split opinions on not only the trailer for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1, but the franchise overall. What did you think of the trailer?
