After the successful launch of its DC Entertainment show Gotham, FOX has now turned its attention to Archie Comics, with Deadline revealing that the network has placed a script deal plus penalty for Riverdale, which is being developed by Warner Bros. Television and Greg Berlanti (Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl) and will include the characters of Archie, Betty, Veronica and Josie and the Pussycats.
The site reports that Archie Comics CCO Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa will script the show, and that “the series will showcase the eternal love triangle of Archie Andrews, girl-next-door Betty Cooper and rich socialite Veronica Lodge and will include the entire cast of characters from the comic books — including Archie’s rival Reggie Mantle and slacker best friend Jughead Jones. Popular gay character Kevin Keller also will play a pivotal role, with other characters from Archie Comics’ expansive library also slated to appear, including Josie and the Pussycats.”
