Free DLC to bring new characters to Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons

March 19, 2025 by Andrew Newton

Maximum Entertainment and developer Secret Base will be bringing a free DLC pack to their beloved beat ‘em up Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons this April, that will bring two brand-new playable characters to the roster.  This will be the first of several planned character updates with a total of six new fighters arriving this year.  Watch the new trailer introducing these new fighters below…

The new fighters arriving with this first DLC are Jeff and Abore. Jeff is a childhood rival of the Lee Brothers and has been jealous of them since the days spent training alongside them in the martial art Sōsetsuken.  Overcome with jealousy and the desire to surpass the brothers, Jeff went on to merge Karate with Sōsetsuken to develop a dangerous, unpredictable fighting style.  Abore is an ex-soldier who fights with raw power. This quiet brawler has incredible strength and resilience and will be a valuable ally in the fight against the criminals of New York.

Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons is a side-scrolling brawler with the iconic Billy and Jimmy Lee, two brothers determined to clean up the streets of the ruins of New York city after a devastating nuclear war.  Players will be able to unleash devastating combos and perform special moves as they fight their way through the city.  There are unique playable characters and unlockable upgrades for players to discover.

In a fresh-new twist to the series, players are able to select up to two characters to form a tag team for cooperative play.  There are also Survival and Versus Modes, the former will allow players to test their skills against waves of enemies that increase in difficulty the longer they survive, and the latter will enable players to battle against their friends to see who is the ultimate Dragon Warrior.

Look out for the new character DLC arriving for Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons next month.
