Frozen 2 tracking $100 million domestic box office opening weekend, new TV spots released

October 31, 2019 by Amie Cranswick

2019 has already been a record shattering year for Disney at the box office, the studio having pulled in some $8.5 billion, and it still has two major hitters to come before the year is out in Frozen 2 and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Last week, a long-range tracking report suggested a domestic opening weekend of around $185 million for December’s Episode IX, and now Deadline is reporting that the Frozen sequel is itself on course to debut with around $100 million from its first weekend in North America this November.

The first teaser for Frozen 2 became the most watched animated film trailer of all time back in February, and the sequel looks set to top the opening of its predecessor, which set a 5-day Thanksgiving record back in 2013 with $93.5. It went on to amass $1.27 billion worldwide, making it the highest-grossing animated movie ever (if you discount Disney’s The Lion King remake).

Why was Elsa born with magical powers? The answer is calling her and threatening her kingdom. Together with Anna, Kristoff, Olaf and Sven, she’ll set out on a dangerous but remarkable journey. In Frozen, Elsa feared her powers were too much for the world.

Frozen 2 is set for release on November 22nd and sees Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, Josh Gad and Jonathan Groff returning to voice the characters of Anna, Elsa, Olaf and Kristoff alongside Frozen newcomers Evan Rachel Wood and Sterling K. Brown.
