Gal Gadot on the evolution of Wonder Woman from her solo film through to Justice League

May 29, 2017 by Jordan Jones

Wonder Woman is releasing in just a few days, and will tell the origin story of Princess Diana, and her evolution into the Amazon Princess that fans know and love. However, we have already had a glimpse of Wonder Woman in 2016’s Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, and will be seeing her team up with her fellow DC heroes in Justice League. So what has the journey been like for actress Gal Gadot, and how has the character evolved from film to film?

“When I just started, the first time I played Wonder Woman, was on Batman v Superman, and it was current day, so I got to play the ‘end result’ of who Wonder Woman is,” Gadot tells Cinema Blend. “And I was very curious to understand and really go through who she is and how she became Wonder Woman. And finally on Wonder Woman we had the chance to go and dig deep, and really establish this beautiful character… And it was really important for Patty and me that this character will be relatable. And I think the fact that she’s the most powerful warrior, but she can also be vulnerable; and she can be confident but confused; blunt, but curious. There’s so many different qualities to her character that makes her not perfect and easier for us to relate. She’s still Diana, but nowadays she’s wiser and more educated about the complexities of life and the world and mankind. But she’s always full of compassion and warmth and love for everyone.”

Before she was Wonder Woman, she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, when an American pilot crashes on their shores and tells of a massive conflict raging in the outside world, Diana leaves her home, convinced she can stop the threat. Fighting alongside man in a war to end all wars, Diana will discover her full powers…and her true destiny.

Wonder Woman will hit cinemas on June 1st in the UK and June 2nd in North America, with Patty Jenkins (Monster) directing a cast that includes Gal Gadot (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice), Chris Pine (Star Trek), Connie Nielsen (Gladiator), Robin Wright (House of Cards), Danny Huston (X-Men Origins: Wolverine), David Thewlis (The Theory of Everything), Ewen Bremner (Snowpiercer), Said Taghmaoui (American Hustle), Elena Anaya (The Skin I Live In), Lisa Loven Kongsli (Force Majeure), Lucy Davis (Shaun of the Dead) and Ann Wolf.
