The Game of Thrones Season 5: The Extension for a Globally Popular Franchise

January 23, 2015 by Gary Collinson

There was great news for Game of Thrones fans recently, as for the first ever HBO has commissioned not one but two seasons of the same show. This means that season five is going to be premiered in America on the 12th April 2015, while it is thought that the sixth season will be released the year afterwards. If previous years are anything to go by then it will be screened on Sky Atlantic the following day, which is something a relief considering the latest season is set to follow in the steps of its predecessors and be a huge hit.

Game of Thrones Season 5: A Brief Introduction

The fifth season is going to be based on the fourth book, A Feast for Crows, and the fifth book, A Dance with Dragons, of the series entitled A Song of Ice and Fire. These two books should work well within a single television series because interestingly, although they follow different characters, their plots run concurrently and are likely to create a compelling viewing experience.

If April is too long for you to wait, however, true fans can get their Game of Thrones fix by attending the latest version of its exhibition which is kicking off its international tour at the London O2 arena in February. If you do not catch it then it will be moving on to Stockholm, Tel Aviv, Madrid, Berlin, Amsterdam and finally Paris, so there is ample opportunity to catch this experience before it ends.

It will feature over 70 original artefacts from the first four series of the show as well as a preview from the fifth series. These include, before entering, the opportunity to pledge your allegiance to your favourite Thrones family. Once inside there are some genuinely unique and exciting exhibitions that immerses you into the world of Game of Thrones. These include more traditional exhibition experiences such as having your photos taken with mock-up of some of the best scenes and sit on the Iron Throne as well as more unusual opportunities such as being able to use Oculus Rift virtual technology to ascend the wall.

The Last Word

If you cannot get your hands on a ticket for the exhibition, however, Game of Thrones is so huge that the experiences do not end there. All of the books are, of course, widely and available and all of the first four seasons are now available on DVD. There is now, even, a Game of Thrones online slot or Game of Thrones themed game, which are exclusively available on the Royal Vegas Australian Casino’s website. These titles underline just how diverse and popular the Game of Thrones franchise has become, as it forges a unique niche in popular culture and appeals to a wider social demographic.
