Gareth Edwards’ Jurassic World movie turns to Wicked’s Jonathan Bailey as its lead

April 16, 2024 by Matt Rodgers

Universal are quickly piecing together the DNA for Gareth Edwards’ Jurassic World movie with the news that Wicked‘s Jonathan Bailey is in talks to join Scarlett Johansson in the summer 2025 release.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Bailey, who is best known for his award-winning role in Showtime limited series Fellow Travelers, is in talks for a leading role in Amblin Entertainment and Universal’s new spin on the blockbuster franchise.

Universal clearly like what they’ve seen from Bailey, who plays prince Fiyero in the studios seasonal tentpole, the Jon M. Chu-directed adaptation of Broadway blockbuster Wicked.

As previously reported, Scarlett Johansson is joining the monster-mash, which will be directed by Rogue One‘s Gareth Edwards, from a script by original Jurassic Park screenwriter David Koepp.

Following the underwhelming response to Colin Trevorrow’s Jurassic World Dominion, which admittedly still grossed a dino-sized $1 billion at the worldwide box-office, Universal and Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Partners are hoping to reinvigorate the series, and are acting fast in order to get things in place to meet their July 2, 2025 release date.
