Gender-swapped High Fidelity TV series in development for Disney’s streaming service

April 9, 2018 by Gary Collinson

According to Deadline, Disney is developing a TV series adaptation of Nick Hornby’s 1995 novel High Fidelity, which was previously brought to the big screen in 2000 with John Cusack starring.

The site reports that the new take comes from writers Veronica West and Sarah Kucserka (Bull, Ugly Betty) and is described as “a departure from the book and the movie while still capturing the romantic comedy and authentic spirit of the original source materials.”

The series will reportedly feature a female lead, who talks straight to the camera as she chronicles past relationships. It is intended as a family friendly series, with a PG-13 tone.

Disney has a number of projects in development for its streaming service, including live-action Star Wars and Marvel series, along with Monsters Inc. and High School Musical shows. The service is expected to launch in 2019, bringing together thousands of hours of Disney films and television library content and original programming.
