George Miller to direct Idris Elba and Tilda Swinton in Three Thousand Years of Longing

October 27, 2018 by Gary Collinson

It looks like we can forget about another Mad Max movie for the foreseeable future, as director George Miller has announced his next project, Three Thousand Years of Longing, which has Idris Elba (Luther) and Tilda Swinton (Suspiria) attached to star.

While plot details are being kept under wraps, the film is said to be an epic love story which involves a genie. Miller has written the script, and will also produce with his regular collaborator Doug Mitchell, and the package is apparently already drawing lots of attention from distributors ahead of the American Film Market.

According to Deadline, Miller had been working on sequels to his acclaimed Mad Max reboot Fury Road, but those plans have been temporarily shelved due to a legal dispute with Warner Bros. over unpaid earnings. The Australian filmmaker has now shifted his full attention to Three Thousand Years of Longing, which he hopes to shoot in 2019.
