UPDATE: George R.R. Martin has no time to watch Game of Thrones, says the books will be considerably different

August 24, 2017 by Jordan Jones

With constant pressure to finish the sixth book in his A Song of Ice and Fire series The Winds of Winter, as well as working on future Game of Thrones spinoffs, writer George R.R. Martin is a bit busy. So busy, in fact, that he has absolutely no time to join the rest of the world in sitting down for Game of Thrones on Sundays. That’s right: one of the few people in the world not watching the show includes the man who created it.

Speaking to the Metro newspaper, the director revealed that due to writing, and touring that he just has no time to tune in. The writer also revealed that the upcoming books will look a lot different than what we are seeing on screen right now: “The book series and TV adaptation go their separate ways… On the screen characters are killed right and left. About twenty of them have died already, which are quite alive to me and will appear in a new book.”

It will be very interesting to see where the books end up as opposed to the TV series. The writers have long known the ending to the series, but not all of the specifics. It’s hard to believe that even George R.R. Martin himself knows every little detail yet. With some characters still alive in the books, others already dead, and some characters not even introduced, it could end up being quite a different tale.

UPDATE: Martin has now clarified to EW that he does in fact watch the show, and can’t recall saying otherwise, but is behind on season seven due to a trip to Russia.
