Godzilla: King of the Monsters and The Six Billion Dollar Man pushed back, Doctor Sleep to open in January 2020

May 24, 2018 by Amie Cranswick

We’re going to have to wait a little longer before we get to see Godzilla squaring off against Mothra, Rodan and King Ghidorah, as Warner Bros. has announced that it has pushed back the release of Godzilla: King of the Monsters from its original date of March 22nd 2019 to May 31st 2019.

The move takes the legendary kaiju away from the likes of Captain Marvel (March 8th), Dumbo (March 29th) and Shazam! (April 5th), and it will now open four weeks after Marvel’s sure-to-be-massive superhero sequel Avengers 4.

Along with the Godzilla change, Warner has also announced that the Mark Wahlberg-headlined The Six Billion Dollar Man has been pushed back over a year and will now open on June 5th 2020 (little surprise given that it lost its director earlier this month), while the Stephen King adaptation Doctor Sleep from director Mike Flanagan (Gerald’s Game) has been given a January 24th 2020 date.

Godzilla: King of the Monsters follows the heroic efforts of the crypto-zoological agency Monarch as its members face off against a battery of god-sized monsters, including the mighty Godzilla, who collides with Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah. When these ancient super-species — thought to be mere myths — rise again, they all vie for supremacy, leaving humanity’s very existence hanging in the balance.

Godzilla: King of the Monsters is set for release on May 31st, 2019 and sees Michael Dougherty (Krampus) directing returning Godzilla stars Sally Hawkins (Dr. Vivienne Graham) and Ken Watanabe (Dr. Ishiro Serizawa), and new additions Millie Bobby Brown (Stranger Things), Kyle Chandler (Friday Night Lights), O’Shea Jackson Jr. (Straight Outta Compton), Vera Farmiga (Bates Motel), Aisha Hinds (Star Trek Into Darkness), Charles Dance (Game of Thrones), Thomas Middleditch (Silicon Valley), Zhang Ziyi (The Grandmaster), Randy Havens (Stranger Things) and Elizabeth Ludlow (The Walking Dead).
