Guardians of the Galaxy’s Michael Rooker rules out Yondu return, but open to new role in the MCU

April 16, 2020 by EJ Moreno

Even with the memorable death of his character Yondu in Vol. 2, it seems that Michael Rooker hasn’t ruled out the chance of returning to the James Gunn-directed Guardians of the Galaxy film series.

During a recent interview with Michael Rosenbaum, Michael Rooker went on to explain that the door is closed to play Yondu again in future MCU movies but he would be open to playing another character in the universe.

“No way, I’m dead. I’m dead. My character is dead,” Rooker exclaimed to Rosenbaum. “I would play something else, I wouldn’t mind. I would play something else, but why would I want to play Yondu? Yondu had a wonderful…amazing sendoff that you would ever want in cinematic Marvel history. My god, dude, why do you want to spoil that by bringing the character back now?”

Rooker went on to agree with director James Gunn’s recent comments about Yondu’s resurrection, as the director feels a return would nullifying his sacrifice. Rooker went on to add: “There are consequences when you die, you’re supposed to stay dead! What the hell you coming back for? Why are they bringing all these schmucks back? Give me a break. Move on, do another movie.”

While Yondu is seemingly out of the question, Michael Rooker can easily don another look in hopes of returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Gemma Chan, who appeared as Minn-Erva in Captain Marvel, will soon be seen in Eternals as a completely different character, Sersi. But it does seem hard for Rooker ever to come close to what he did with his now-iconic Yondu role.

Are there any other MCU characters you’d like to see Michael Rooker playing? Let us know in the comments or on our social channels @FlickeringMyth…
