Halloween Kills director David Gordon Green teases what makes the sequel feel fresh

July 28, 2020 by Liam Waddington

Although Halloween Kills has been delayed until 2021, it hasn’t stopped the film’s director from teasing how he is making sure the latest instalment in the Halloween franchise won’t feel repetitive.

In a recent interview with Total Film, Green teased how his approach to Halloween Kills will make the sequel feel fresh rather than just retelling the same slasher horror story like Halloween 2018, as well as all the other previous instalments.

“If the first film was somewhat retelling the origin of Myers and getting us up to speed with where Laurie had been all those years, then part two is about the outrage of Haddonfield,” Green said. “Mob Rules was our working title for the film. It’s about a community that is united by outrage, and divided in how to deal with evil.”

Green isn’t the only member of the creative team that has teased the upcoming sequel as Halloween composer John Carpenter called the film “fun, intense and brutal, a slasher movie times one hundred,” co-writer Scott Teems said the script is “the bigger, badder, meaner version of the first one,” and Michael Myers actor James Jude Courtney described Halloween Kills as “Halloween on speed.”

Halloween Kills is directed by David Gordon Green from a script by Green and Danny McBride and sees Jamie Lee Curtis (Laurie Strode) Judy Greer (Karen), Andi Matichak (Allyson), Jibrail Nantambu (Julian), Kyle Richards (Lindsey Wallace), Nancy Stephens (Nurse Marion), Charles Cyphers (Sheriff Brackett) and Nick Castle and James Jude Courtney (The Shape) all reprising their roles, while new additions include Anthony Michael Hall (The Dead Zone) as Tommy Doyle and Robert Longstreet (The Haunting of Hill House) as Lonnie Elam. The film is currently scheduled to release on October 15th, 2021.
