Halloween producer Jason Blum “would love to do sequels” if the new movie performs

September 14, 2018 by Gary Collinson

40 years after first terrifying audiences, the Halloween franchise returns to the big screen this year complete with original stars Jamie Lee Curtis (Laurie Strode) and Nick Castle (Michael Myers), not to mention the legendary John Carpenter as executive producer, with a brand new instalment that serves as a direct sequel to the 1978 classic.

Speaking to Forbes at the Toronto International Film Festival, where the movie debuted to glowing reviews, producer Jason Blum of Blumhouse Productions has revealed that the hope is to revisit the world of Michael Myers once again should this reboot perform to expectations.

“I’d love to do sequels, and I hope we do a sequel and we will do a sequel if the movie performs,” said Blum. “We’re not going to decide if we do a sequel or not until we see the reaction to this movie. But I really hope to make it.”

Given the critical consensus coming out of Toronto, the buzz among horror fans for the new movie, and its low budget it seems a pretty safe bet that Blumhouse has another big hit on its hands with Halloween, and so it’s unlikely this will be the last we’ll see of The Shape…

Master of horror John Carpenter will executive produce and serve as creative consultant on this film, joining forces with cinema’s current leading producer of horror, Jason Blum (Get Out, Split, The Purge, Paranormal Activity). Inspired by Carpenter’s classic, filmmakers David Gordon Green and Danny McBride crafted a story that carves a new path from the events in the landmark 1978 film, and Green also directs.

Halloween is being directed by David Gordon Green from a script by Green and Danny McBride. In addition to the returning Jamie Lee Curtis (Laurie Strode) and Nick Castle (Michael Myers), the film stars Judy Greer (War for the Planet of the Apes), Andi Matichak (Orange Is the New Black), Will Patton (Shots Fired), Virginia Gardner (Runaways), Miles Robbins (Mozart in the Jungle), Dylan Arnold (Mudbound) and Drew Scheid (Stranger Things).
