Halo’s Pablo Schreiber says playing Master Chief is “one of the great pleasures and cosplay moments of my life”

March 21, 2022 by EJ Moreno

For many fans, the thought of putting on the suit of your favorite hero sounds like a dream come true. Some fans even get lucky enough to live that out, as actor Pablo Schreiber will tell you.

The star of the upcoming Halo series coming to Paramount+ recently opened up about playing Master Chief, what it felt like donning the costume, and the downside to wearing such a detailed suit.

When asked by ComicBook.com if he felt like a bad-ass in the suit, Schreiber gave a joyous answer: “The short answer is yes. Wearing the suit is one of the great pleasures and cosplay moments of my life. I mean, I’m the Master Chief. Who would’ve thunk, right?”

“The reality of getting the suit right was very challenging, as most things on the show were,” he continued. “It was a huge challenge because it’s such a massive universe and such a crazy visual experiment to try to realize… So I went to London about five or six times, to FBFX Studios who made the costume; this is all before we shot, just to try to get the suit right and make it fit right. And eventually, we ended up with something that was the best version of what we could do with it. And still, it was incredibly hot, incredibly uncomfortable, and really makes you quite immobile and makes movement quite difficult. To then try to bring that to life and make it feel like it’s this piece of future tech that actually makes you super capable rather than weighing you down with 50 pounds of plastic was one of our big challenges.”

“In a war for humanity’s very survival, our deadliest weapon is our greatest hope. In its adaptation for Paramount+, HALO will take place in the universe that first came to be in 2001 with the launch of Xbox’s first “Halo” game. Dramatizing an epic 26th-century conflict between humanity and an alien threat known as the Covenant, HALO the series will weave deeply drawn personal stories with action, adventure, and a richly imagined vision of the future.

Halo stars Pablo Schreiber (the Master Chief, Spartan John-117), Natascha McElhone (Dr. Halsey), Jen Taylor (Cortana), Bokeem Woodbine (Soren-066), Shabana Azmi (Admiral Margaret Parangosky), Natasha Culzac (Riz-028), Olive Gray (Miranda Keyes), Yerin Ha (Kwan Ha Boo), Bentley Kalu (Vannak-134), Kate Kennedy (Kai-125), Charlie Murphy (Makee) and Danny Sapani (Captain Jacob Keyes).

Halo will premiere on Paramount+ on March 24th.
