Hans Zimmer on 12 Years a Slave, Winter’s Tale and Interstellar

October 21, 2013 by admin

Hans Zimmer is a very busy man. In 2013, he’s written the music for The Lone Ranger, Man of Steel and Rush and will followed these up with Steve McQueen’s 12 Years a Slave. The story chronicles the true life 12 year journey of Solomon Northup who was abducted as a free man in 1841 and thrown into slavery for 12 years. Although I’m yet to see the film myself, the early reviews have labelled it as the early lead for best film at the Oscars [read Flickering Myth’s ★★★★★ review here].

In an interview with Collider, Zimmer revealed that he was initially reluctant to take on the project and didn’t feel he was the right guy for it, but it was McQueen’s direction while working on the music that helped him write the score. Zimmer also went on to discuss his work on the upcoming films Winter’s Tale and the much anticipated Interstellar, directed by Christopher Nolan. When discussing Winter’s Tale, he revealed that he is reverting back to a traditional score with proper melodies, proper tunes and a proper orchestra. He may have revealed little about Interstellar, but he did hint towards the idea that the Dark Knight Trilogy will heavily influence his score.

Be sure to check out the full interview at Collider.
