Happy Death Day helmer Christopher Landon to direct Arachnophobia remake

June 6, 2022 by Gary Collinson

You may recall way back in 2018 that James Wan’s Atomic Monster was announced as teaming with Amblin Entertainment for a remake of the cult 1990 horror comedy Arachnophobia, and it seems the project may now be looking to finally start spinning its web.

As reported by THR, Happy Death Day and Freaky director Christopher Landon has been set to write and direct the remake, which is being produced by Wan and Michael Clear of Atomic Monster. Frank Marshall, who directed the original, is also executive producing.

The original Arachnophobia took place in a small town in California as it came under attack from deadly South American spiders, and featured a cast that included Jeff Daniels and John Goodman. It grossed $53.2 million worldwide, and quickly became a firm favourite on VHS.

Along with Freaky and the Happy Death Day films, Landon also wrote four of the Paranormal Activity films, as well as writing and directing the spinoff Paranomal Activity: The Marked Ones and Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse. His next film We Have a Ghost is slated for release this later year.
