Harrison Ford wants to return as Indiana Jones

August 6, 2013 by admin

We all know – or rather expect – that Harrison Ford is gearing up for a return as Han Solo alongside Mark Hamill’s Luke Skywalker and Carrie Fisher’s Princess Leia in Disney’s Star Wars: Episode VII, but speaking to The Telegraph, the 71-year-old star has also expressed interest in reprising his other signature role for a fifth outing as the fedora-wearing, whip-cracking adventurer Indiana Jones.

“We’ve seen [Indy] develop and grow over a period of time and it’s perfectly appropriate and okay for him to come back again with a great movie around him where he doesn’t necessarily have to kick as much ass,” says Ford, who last appeared in the role in 2008’s Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. “To me, what was interesting about the character was that he prevailed, that he had courage, that he had wit, that he had intelligence, that he was frightened and that he still managed to survive. That I can do.”

Talk of a fifth Indiana Jones movie is nothing new, with George Lucas and Steven Spielberg having been mulling over the idea since the last film, when it was initially suggested that Shia LaBeouf’s Mutt Williams could take over as the lead character with Ford slipping into a Sean Connery-style role. However, Indiana Jones 5 would be complicated to put together, with Disney now owning the rights to the character but Paramount Pictures retaining distribution rights – similar to the set-up when Disney purchased Marvel Studios.
