Harrison Ford’s Thunderbolt Ross revealed in Captain America: Brave New World first look images

April 13, 2024 by Gary Collinson

After wowing attendees at CinemaCon this week with footage from the upcoming film, Marvel Studios has now unveiled the first official images from next year’s Captain America: Brave New World, which feature the returning Anthony Mackie as our new Cap, Sam Wilson, along with a first-look at Harrison Ford as Thaddeus ‘Thunderbolt’ Ross.

Ford takes over the role of the now President Ross from the late William Hurt, who portrayed the character from his first MCU appearance in 2008’s The Incredible Hulk, and as described in this week’s CinemaCon footage, Ross is still getting used to his “new look” – having been urged to shave his moustache to secure the Presidency.

Meanwhile, speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Anthony Mackie shared some comments about his first solo lead outing, describing it as “10 times bigger” than the Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier as well calling it “a clear reset” for the franchise.

“It really reestablishes the idea of what this universe is and what this universe is going to be,” Mackie says. “I think with these movies, you’re getting a clear, new branding of what Marvel is headed towards the same way they did with Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The title implies that there’s a new, bigger enemy now; there’s a new frontier that we have to conquer.

“From Captain America: The First Avenger to Endgame, the enemy was always good versus bad. Now that we’ve conquered that, where do we go from here? When the bad guys reappear, in what form are they reappearing? It is a new storyline with new characters, with new beliefs, and it creates a new idea of this new world that we’re going into.”

Captain America: Brave New World stars is directed by Julius Onah (The Cloverfield Paradox) and stars Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson, Harrison Ford as General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, Liv Tyler as Betty Ross, Danny Ramirez as Joaquin Torres, Carl Lumbly as Isaiah Bradley, Tim Blake Nelson as The Leader, and Shira Haas as Sabra.

Captain America: Brave New World is set for release on February 14, 2025.
