Hugh Jackman joins Pan as Blackbeard

January 24, 2014 by admin

Just yesterday it was revealed that Garrett Hedlund (Inside Llewyn Davis) looks set to join Warner Bros.’ Peter Pan movie Pan in the role of Captain Hook, and now it has been confirmed that Hugh Jackman (The Wolverine) will take on his first villainous part, having signed on to appear as the pirate Blackbeard.

Jackman was first said to be in talks with the studio back in mid-December, having become the first choice for the role after Javier Bardem (Skyfall) allegedly turned down the opportunity.

“Hugh Jackman always delivers indelible performances that resonate with audiences,” said Greg Silverman, Warners’ President, Creative Development and Worldwide Production, on the announcement. “We know he will create a Blackbeard who will be a powerful presence in this original Peter Pan adventure.”

The film will explore the origins of Peter Pan as he is taken to Neverland and eventually becomes its saviour by leading a rebellion against Blackbeard and his band of pirates. Joe Wright (Anna Karenina) is handling directing duties, with Warner Bros. slotting the film into Batman vs. Superman’s original release date of July 17th 2015, where it will face off against Marvel’s Ant-Man.
