Hulu’s How I Met Your Father starring Hilary Duff rounds out its cast

August 12, 2021 by Ricky Church

After casting Hilary Duff as the lead of How I Met Your Father, Hulu has rounded out its main cast with five additions. Joining Duff as series regulars are Chris Lowell (GLOW), Francia Raisa (Grown-ish), Tom Ainsley (The Royals), Tien Tran (Space Force) and Suraj Sharma (Homeland). Check out their character descriptions below…

Much like it’s predecessor How I Met Your Mother, How I Met Your Father will see Duff play Sophie as “she tells her son the story of how she met his father. It will begin in 2021, where Sophie and her close-knit group of friends are in the midst of figuring out who they are, what they want out of life, and how to fall in love in the age of dating apps and limitless options.”

Lowell will star as Jesse, “an aspiring musician who works as an Uber driver to make ends meet. He’s smart, edgy and cynical about love.”

Raisa is Valentina, “Sophie’s roommate, who’s an aspiring stylist. She’s impulsive and adventurous, and brings back a gorgeous Brit by the name of Charlie after returning from London Fashion Week in the beginning of the series.”

Ainsley will play Charlie, “an up-and-coming model, who fell head over heels in love with Valentina and followed her to New York. Charlie’s the son of posh, conservative British aristocrats, so he’s been living in the happy bubble of the rich his whole life.”

Tran plays Ellen, “Jesse’s adopted sister, who just moved to New York from a small farming town after separating from her wife, and doesn’t quite fit into the Brooklyn scene.”

Sharma is Sid, “Jesse’s best friend and roommate. A new bar owner, he is the optimist to Jesse’s negativity.”

How I Met Your Father will run for 10 episodes using the multi and single-cam format. It will be written and executive produced by creators Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger (Love Victor). How I Met Your Mother creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas will executive produce along with Adam Londy. 20th Television is producing the series while Duff will also be a producer.

The series has been in development for quite some time. It almost came to series several years ago under the title How I Met Your Dad with Greta Gerwig starring as the lead and the pilot filmed, but CBS decided to pass on it at the time.

How I Met Your Mother originally ran from 2005 – 2014 with Josh Radnor, Jason Segel, Alyson Hannigan, Neil Patrick Harris and Cobie Smulders starring throughout its nine seasons. It followed Radnor’s Ted Mosby as he related the story to his children of how he met their mother and proved to be a hit for several years, though its final seasons, and the series finale in particular, was met with heavy criticism from fans.
