Ian McShane joins the cast of Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen

August 2, 2017 by Jordan Jones

It looks like we have another big name to add to the Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen! Actor Ian McShane (Deadwood, American Gods) is joining the cast of the Neil Marshall directed film as the character Professor Broom.

Trevor Bruttenholm a.k.a Professor Broom is an expert of the occult, and the initial director of the “Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense”. Bruttenholm was actually the one who discovered Hellboy as a child during what became known as “The Hellboy Incident”. Professor Broom serves as a surrogate father to Hellboy in the comic series.

The Hellboy reboot is shaping up to be a promising film. While fans mourn the recasting of Ron Perlman, David Harbour is an excellent choice to play Hellboy, and young enough to allow room for growth. Ian McShane is riding high on the success of American Gods, and it’s good to see him getting more work. Millennium and Lionsgate have also promised that the film will be much darker, and gruesome than previous Hellboy films.  Still no word on when Hellboy will star production, or a release date.
