Ian McShane won’t appear in John Wick spinoff series The Continental

February 27, 2019 by Gary Collinson

In addition to the upcoming feature John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, the world of John Wick is set to branch out to the small screen courtesy of Starz, with development underway on a spinoff TV series entitled The Continental.

As you may be able to guess from the title, the series will revolve around The Continental, a hotel that serves as neutral territory for the crkminal underworld.

However, if you were expecting Ian McShane’s hotel owner Winston to feature prominently in the show, you’ll be disappointed to hear that the British actor has ruled himself out, telling Rotten Tomatoes: “No. But I may give ’em a voiceover. A series, no. They talked about that.”

Starz’s President of Original Programming Carmi Zlotnick had previously suggested that they were keen to have McShane on board for the series, extending their working relationship beyond American Gods. McShane will however be reprising the role of Winston for John Wick 3, which is set to open this May.

John Wick (Keanu Reeves) is on the run for two reasons… he’s being hunted for a global $14 million dollar open contract on his life, and for breaking a central rule: taking a life on Continental Hotel grounds. The victim was a member of the High Table who ordered the open contract. John should have already been executed, except the Continental’s manager, Winston, has given him a one-hour grace period before he’s “Excommunicado” – membership revoked, banned from all services and cut off from other members. John uses the service industry to stay alive as he fights and kills his way out of New York City.

John Wick 3: Parabellum is set for release on May 17th 2019 and reunites Keanu Reeves with director Chad Stahelski and also features returning cast members Ian McShane, Laurence Fishburne, and Lance Reddick alongside newcomers Hiroyuki Sanada (47 Ronin, The Wolverine), Anjelica Huston (Isle of Dogs), Halle Berry (Kingsman: The Golden Circle), Asia Kate Dillon (Billions), Mark Dacascos (Lucky Day), Jason Mantzoukas (The House), Tiger Hu Chen (Man of Tai Chi) and The Raid’s Yayan Ruhian and Cecep Arif Rahman.
