Idris Elba to star in Sky comedy series In the Long Run

October 10, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Variety is reporting that Idris Elba is teaming up with Sky to star in In the Long Run, a new comedy series which he has created, and is loosely based on his own childhood in London.

The series takes place in the 1980s and follows the Easmon family, immigrants from Sierra Leona. Elba is set to play the father, Walter, who works in the local factory alongside friend and neighbor Bagpipes (Bill Bailey). His son Akuna hangs out in the housing project, playing soccer and dodging the local thugs, until his brother Valentine arrives in the UK, bringing chaos in his wake and igniting a passion for music in Akuna.

“I’m really happy to be in comedy, bringing some joy into a world that needs some laughs,” said Elba. “With a great team behind it I look forward to people seeing it.”

“We’re honored to be working with Idris in what is an authentic, perceptive and deeply funny show,” added Jon Mountague, head of comedy at Sky. “In the Long Run will surprise and delight viewers.”

Elba will next be seen reprising his role as Heimdall in the Marvel sequel Thor: Ragnarok, which is set for release on October 24th in the UK and November 3rd in the States.
