It will receive a Director’s Cut on Blu-ray

September 17, 2017 by Amie Cranswick

New Line Cinema has scored a huge hit with its Stephen King adaptation It, which is already the highest-grossing movie based on one of King’s works, and is on its way to becoming the biggest September release of all time.

While we await official word on the green light for the second instalment, director Andy Muschietti and producer Barbara Muschietti have revealed to Yahoo Movies that they have been asked to put together a Director’s Cut for the film’s Blu-ray release:

“Right, we are going to do a director’s cut. We were told this morning,” said Barbara, with Andy adding that: “[It will] probably [be] an extra 15 minutes for hardcore fans.”

Muschietti also teased a scene that might make the extended cut, stating that: “There’s a great scene, it’s a bit of a payoff of the Stanley Uris plot which is the bar mitzvah, where he delivers a speech against all expectations… it’s basically blaming all the adults of Derry [for the town’s history of deadly “accidents” and child disappearances], and it has a great resolution. … Maybe it will be in the director’s cut!”

When children begin to disappear in the town of Derry, Maine, a group of young kids are faced with their biggest fears when they square off against an evil clown named Pennywise, whose history of murder and violence dates back for centuries.

It sees Andy Muschietti directing Bill Skarsgard (Hemlock Grove) as Pennywise alongside Jaeden Lieberher (St. Vincent), Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things), Jack Dylan Grazer (Tales of Halloween), Wyatt Oleff (Guardians of the Galaxy), Chosen Jacobs (Cops and Robbers), Jeremy Ray Taylor (Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip), Owen Teague (Bloodline), Sophia Lillis (A Midsummer Night’s Dream) and Nicholas Hamilton (Captain Fantastic).
