It’s a nightmare for Torchwood One in the new audio adventure from Big Finish

April 20, 2022 by Andrew Newton

Big Finish has released a brand-new Torchwood One box set packed full of the stuff to give you nightmares.  Torchwood One: Nightmares features three new full-cast audio dramas starring Tracy-Ann Oberman as the dutiful head of Torchwood One Yvonne Hartman and Gareth David-Lloyd as Ianto Jones.

In these three new adventures Torchwood’s Yvonne Hartman finds herself having to deal with an extremely seedy chat show host who wants to know far too much, a whole chunk of missing memory and a deceased member of the royal family.

Joining Tracy-Ann Oberman and Gareth David-Lloyd are Big Finish regular Jon Culshaw, Timothy Blore (The King’s Man), Susan Momoko Hingley (Years and Years), Blythe Jandoo (Beauty and the Beast), Damian Lynch (The Split) and Timothy Bentinck MBE, best known for his role in The Archers.

In My Guest Tonight by Tim Foley, Hartman finds herself on the sofa to the popular chat show host Nigel Best.  Many people have poured their souls out to him on the show but what exactly is he wanting from Hartman?

Lola by Rochana Patel brings confusion and misunderstanding into the ranks of Torchwood as both Yvonne Hartman and Ianto Jones believe something is not quite right. Problem is, they both think it is each other.

Finally in Less Majesty by James Goss, Yvonne Hartman wakes up in a nice hotel room only to find a dead member of the royal family laying next to her.  Can she figure out what has gone on and how the member of royalty died?

Tracy-Ann Oberman said: “It’s always a joy to play Yvonne – I love her! I think she’s such a wonderful character. She’s so mercurial. Is she a victim, villain, saviour, or demon? We don’t know. As the years have gone by with Big Finish, we’ve added more and more layers as to who she is and the writing for her is spectacular.”

Gareth David-Lloyd added: “Ianto is still a bit green and eager to please. He’s found himself in a comfortable role at Torchwood and is feeling protected. He’s got to step up to the plate and find that brave soul that was there when he went to London when he was a tearaway from Wales.”

Torchwood One: Nightmares is available now as a 3-disc collector’s edition box set for £19.99 or just a digital download for £16.99.
