J.A. Bayona explains why he dropped out of directing World War Z 2

June 28, 2018 by Samuel Brace

J.A. Bayona, director of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, has explained why he is no longer working on World War Z 2.

World War Z, the adaptation of the hugely popular novel of the same name, is finally receiving a sequel. Paramount had hired J.A. Bayona to direct the film but, unfortunately, it didn’t last.

Bayona instead moved to Universal for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, leaving David Fincher to step into direct World War Z 2. But what exactly happened? Well, Bayona told Den of Geek recently that he just couldn’t find a way to make the film work so he moved on:

“We were working on that project for around a year, and we had a great idea. We were very excited. We designed great set pieces, and we were very excited with the direction we were taking with the film, but somehow, we never found a way to connect it all together.”

Are you disappointed that Bayona left the project? Or are you happier now that Fincher has taken on the sequel?
