J.K. Simmons doesn’t know if The Batman will shoot before Justice League 2

March 23, 2017 by Gary Collinson

This November, former Spider-Man star J.K. Simmons will make his DC Extended Universe debut as he takes on the role of Jim Gordon in Justice League.

Simmons was set to reprise the role this year for The Batman, but now that the Matt Reeves-directed solo movie has been pushed back amid rumours of a page-one rewrite, the Oscar-winner has now revealed that he’s unsure when he’ll next be reprising the role of Gotham’s Police Commissioner.

“My part in the first film coming out this fall is very, very small… It’s a little introduction of the character,” Simmons tells Screen Crush. “But whenever the next one gets off the ground, whether it’s The Batman movie or the Justice League sequel, and I know those things are getting shuffled around right now … we thought we might be getting to work pretty soon on The Batman, but we’ll see what the future brings. Hopefully that’ll be another comic-book character that I get to take two or three or four cracks at.”

Given that Simmons appears in Justice League, he’s in a better position than his potential The Batman co-star Joe Manganiello, who is now unsure about whether he’ll get to play Deathstroke given the uncertainty around the solo movie.

Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

Justice League will reunite Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice stars Henry Cavill as Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Jason Mamoa as Aquaman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor and Connie Nielsen as Queen Hippolyta alongside J.K. Simmons (Whiplash) as Commissioner Gordon, Amber Heard (The Danish Girl) as Mera, Willem Dafoe (Spider-Man) as Vulko, Kiersey Clemons (Dope) as Iris West, Ciaran Hinds (Game of Thrones) as Steppenwolf and Julian Lewis Jones (Stella) in an as-yet-unrevealed role.
