Netflix has announced that Jacob Tremblay, Shailene Woodley, Annabelle Wallis and Russell Crowe are set to star in Unabom, a thriller focusing on the true story of domestic terrorist Ted Kaczynski.
Per Deadline’s story, Tremblay (The Life of Chuck) will play the infamous bomber, who graduated as a Harvard whizz-kid, only to go on and carry out a seventeen-year campaign of terror between 1978-95, killing three people and injuring 23.
Russell Crowe (The Pope’s Exorcist) is set to play Professor Henry Murray, who conducted controversial experiments on Kaczynski, with Annabelle Wallis (Peaky Blinders) embodying Christiana Morgan, Professor Murray’s academic partner. Shailene Woodley will take on the role of FBI agent Joanne Miller, who leads the manhunt for the bomber.
Unabom has evolved from a spec-script written by Sam Chalsen and Nelson Greaves (TV’s Sleepy Hollow), and will be directed by Janus Metz (Andor). He told Netflix’s TUDUM that “Unabom is a story about a young man who feels increasingly disenfranchised by society and decides to take up violence as a means of revenge,” adding that “We crosscut between two timelines, roughly speaking: the making of the Unabomber and the capture of the Unabomber.”
It would be the second high-profile project that Netflix has made based on Ted Kaczynski, with Sam Worthington and Paul Bettany headlining the really-rather-good Manhunt: Unabomber series back in 2017.
