At the time of release, Invisible Man star Elisabeth Moss said that any potential for a sequel to Leigh Whannell’s Universal Monsters reboot depended on demand from the audience. Well it’s safe to say that following stellar reviews, and $144 million at the worldwide box-office, a gross which was severely affected by the onset of a global pandemic, the demand is most definitely there. Thankfully it’s a sentiment shared by Jason Blum and James Wan, whose imminent production company merger could signal a green light for the sequel.
Blum’s Blumhouse and Wan’s Atomic Monster are set to merge under separate labels, and during a chat with The Hollywood Reporter on the eve of M3GAN‘s release, the two spoke about working together, which is something they first did back on 2010’s Insidious.
While Blum and Wan have the fifth installment of that wildly successful franchise coming out next year in the form of the Patrick Wilson directed Insidious: Fear the Dark, the two were particularly excited about the possibility of their merger reviving sequel plans for The Invisible Man. Blum said “Hopefully, should our dreams come true and our two companies get to work together, maybe James will help me solve that problem,”, to which the Malignant director replied “I’d be more than happy to.”
Promising news indeed that two of the creative talents who have shaped the horror landscape of the last decade with critical and commercial hits want to return to the world of one of 2020’s best films.
