Jamie Foxx says his Electro “won’t be blue” in Marvel and Sony’s Spider-Man 3

October 7, 2020 by Gary Collinson

Marvel fans were hit with some shocking news last week when it was announced that Jamie Foxx will be returning to the role of Electro in Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures’ upcoming sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far From Home.

Foxx previously portrayed the villain in Sony’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2, a film which was poorly received by True Believers and caused the studio to scrap its plans for an interconnected universe based around Andrew Garfield’s web-slinger.

So naturally the news that Foxx would be back as Electro – this time as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe – left many fans scratching their head, and several fan sites dropping “scoops” claiming that Marvel was about to open the door to the Spider-Verse with the upcoming WandaVision TV series by having Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch bringing Foxx’s TASM2 Max Dillon into the MCU.

Well, it seems that we can rule that out, as Foxx shared a now deleted Instagram post which – although he included an image referencing the Spider-Verse – seems to confirm that he won’t be playing the same version of Electro that we saw in the 2012 movie (thank god!).

Foxx isn’t the only actor from a previous version of Spider-Man to feature in the upcoming Marvel and Sony sequel, as J.K. Simmons is expected to be back as J. Jonah Jameson, having returned to the role he owned in the Sam Raimi trilogy in the post-credits scene of Far From Home.

The as-yet-untitled Spider-Man 3 is currently slated for release in December 2021, and sees director Jon Watts reuniting once again with Homecoming and Far From Home stars Tom Holland (Peter Parker), Zendaya (MJ), Jacon Batalon (Ned Leeds) and Tony Revolori (Flash Thompson).
